RUISLIP HOARDINGS & BRANDING

BACKGROUND

Ruislip, an area in North London, features two historic centers: the oldest being Manor Farm and the High Street, which experienced significant growth during the Metroland boom following the expansion of the tube network in the 1930s.

The hoardings were erected at one end of the High Street, furthest from the Underground Station, after a building was demolished. The London Borough of Hillingdon commissioned our studio to create artwork to welcome visitors to the area.

SOLUTION

We cherish history and believe art can engage and inform, fostering community pride. Positioned between the High Street and the historic Manor Farm, which dates back to the 13th century, the hoardings serve a dual purpose: they provide directional signage for passing cars, pointing the way to the High Street, Manor Farm, and the car park, and they offer interesting facts and stories about the area for pedestrians.

The Ruislip typeface evokes a 1930s feel, distinguishing it from the gothic illuminated manuscript typography used for Manor Farm.

The design became so well-liked that we were asked to adapt the design for a bag that the council had printed and was given to local shops to hand out to their customers.
