PLACEMAKING | URBAN ART | MURAL
The library was relatively new but underused. Set back from the road with low footfall, it wasn’t immediately visible or well known within the local area. We were commissioned to create an artwork that would raise awareness and draw people in.
We spent time in the area observing different viewpoints, taking photographs, and speaking with local residents and library users. It became clear that many people simply weren’t aware of the range of services the library offered.

We reframed the challenge: how could we create an image that clearly says “library,” communicates its wider offer, and is visible from a distance?
The solution was a bold stack of books. By using the book spines to display different titles, we were able to showcase the variety of services available while creating a simple, recognisable image that could be easily understood at a glance. These were the proposed designs:

We carried the design through onto bookmarks, mugs and notebooks, giving it a life beyond the wall.
